Hi,

I just bought Nikon Coolpix 3700 that has .mov movie clips and I am trying to figure out what is the best way to save them to my iMac. I also have a PC available if that would be better (doubtful). I can view the clips in Quicktime, iMovie and Power Point, but only the later two can I save and then they are an iMovie or a power point file, not a .mov file. Do I need to upgrade to Quicktime Pro so I can save to .mov files or will I want to use iMovie or Power Point anyway so it would be waste of money? I have no need for a Power Point presentation.

I will be using the movie clips for mainly personal viewing, but will want to be able to occassionally share the movie clip with far away family members. I plan on using the highest resolution (640x480 at 30 pfs) movie clips and have a computer that currently has 51 GB free on the hard drive. With movie clips taking up so much space, it is obvious that I won't be able to store all my pictures and movies on the computer for long. I have used the iDVD to make slideshows of my still pictures and that got me interested in adding videos capabilities. My relatives are serious photographers with huge cameras and lens (i.e. quality very important).

Thank you for any suggestions / comments.

My husband answered this for me. He pointed out the computer considers the camera just another hard drive that you can open and look at files. All I had to do is drag the movie onto my hard drive! So easy.

Another thing you can do is use Image Capture. It's in your Applications folder. After iPhoto is done downloading your photos you can tell Image Capture to download your movies. It will automatically put them in your Movies folder.
