Default Coolpix 5700 vs. Sony DSC F717

I decided to replace my Canon Elan IIe (lenses:EF 28-105mm,f/3.5-4.5 II USM) camera by digital one. I believe these two cameras are within the $ range and quality I am looking for. I am not professional photographer but I hate ‘point and shoot’ stuff. Which one do you think is better and why.

Thanks

I would buy the Nikon 5700. Check out www.dealtime.com for pricing and vendor rating.

Sony's insistence on a proprietary memory format is enough reason to stay with Nikon.
