Hi all,

When I put my HP Photosmart 720 on the camera dock (8881), the camera LCD screen lights up automatically. Depending upon PC status, the message 'Press to unload' or 'No device connected...' will appear on the camera screen.

I noticed that this screen never shuts down automatically, so I wonder if it is safe I toleave the camera on the dock 24h/24h(just to keep the camera on a safe spot and within reach).

Will this affect the lifetime or quality of the LCD screen, as it is always lit?

Thanks.

The backlight of the LCD display is basically a fluorescent light, and with use they grow dim and eventually can burn out. I wouldn't recommend leaving the camera in the dock. The power control on the camera does nothing when it is in the dock?

Thanks for your feedback.

No, all device controls are disabled once the camera is on the dock, and the camera's setup menu doesn't seem to have any related settings.

I may be incorrect, but I believe that you can turn the power switch

to the off position on your camera after it is in the dock, the camera

will continue to charge, at least this how my 812 and 945 work!

Yeah! You're right Traxxman. I guess that I didn't push the power button long enough when I tried this the first time.

Thanks a lot.

Another mystery solved. Still, isn't it nice to have people here to remind us to do the things we thought we knew in the first place.

Indeed, Tom. I'd like to quote one of Murpy's "technology laws" to close this thread:

'It's impossible to make anything foolproof because fools are so ingenious'
