Default cf card 8x,16x,25x other media doesn't add xxxx's

hi ya'll..... why does compact flash advertise the speed 8x,16x,24x's? when other media like secure digital,mmc,smart media does not? is their any difference? whats the benifit of having faster cards?does it benifit camera?or computer?

Other media like secure digital, mmc, smart media are just raw 'NAND' memory dies bond out to a usable interface (ie human hand) and is limited only by the camera own speed (ie the camera handles every accesses)

CF card has a memory controller interface much like a hardisk and can do burst transfer or DMA like. The faster the burst, the faster the x factor.

This is theory, in practice there's actually a S/W driver that acts like an Atapi hardisk interface for the other media as well inside the camera.

thank NHL... i see....so that why one can write/upgrade the software/firmware in the camera like the dimage 7 compact flash and the other media can't.
