Ive been admiring Lomography for a few months now.. drooling over all the amazing shots people get with these crummy little russian cameras. I noticed that most of the photos taken with a lomo will have darker edges, with a very bright intensly colored image in the centre. Can i get this kind of effect with my Digital Rebel? Do i need to get a filter, or a lens? I can fake it in photoshop, but its just not quite the same.

here's some examples of lomography..

Interesting photos.

Is it the Lomo camera, or the Lomofilm, or the combination of both that produces this unique effect?

I'd suggest getting the cheapest lenses, filters, and auxillary lenses you can find. In particular, really cheap wide angle lenses and auxillary lenses. If they don't do what you want, attack them with some stong cleaner that destroys any coating they have. Or try things like vasoline on them.

wow that seems a little drastic..

is that the only reason that lomographs are so different looking? The lens is poor quality? im sure there must be something else going on in those little russian masterpeices.

The picture is so vibrant. it's intriguing

Not sure that is all that is going on, but maltreatment of a cheap filter is one thing to try. Though I don't like the results much, it is an old trick.
