Hi all,

Im just wondering what online photo albums people use out there. eg. webshots.com, photobucket.com

Which one offers the most space for free accounts?

And which one do people recommend?

A nice looking web interface would be a bonus.

Thanks

Cheers

A member of a local digital photo group made a presentation yesterday on Shutterfly:

http://www.shutterfly.com/

He seemed quite pleased with it, especially since the basic features are free: maintaining an online photo album, sending emails to individuals with links to selected photos, etc. Apparently they make their money by people ordering prints, T-shirts, mugs, etc. with their photos used for the design. Should be worth a look.

:O

I use smugmug.com. It's not free ($30 a year USD) but I really like the service. You have a lot of controls regarding presentation, can password protect albums, can post direct links (so you can post pictures here), it maintains EXIF info and your family and friends can order prints which are processed through ezprints.com. Oh, and one other important tidbit - you have unlimited space. The only limitation is you can only upload 100 mb at a time. So if you have a large number of files you have to split your uploads into several batches.

Did the presentation include a warning about the amount of spam and crap they then send you? Shutterfly is in my mailbox almost daily.

If he mentioned that, I missed it. There are sources whose frequent emails I don't mind, but I doubt if Shutterfly would be one of them. The presenter uses the same ISP I do, which offers spam filtering, but that should not be necessary for a legitimate company.

I think I'll stick with the freebie space offered by my ISP and similar ...

if you are going to post pictures to a site and can't upload there. try flckr.com allows hotlinks.

berto

if you are getting spam. simply get a yahoo mailing account and whenever mail from say, shutterfly comes in.. set as spam and it won't come anymore.
