Default Monitor color - help please

Since buying a digital camera (F717) I suddenly am presented with a problem I never noticed before. I am unable to get white to appear true white on my monitor - it is a bit like yellowed paper. I have tried tweaking the RGB controls of the monitor but am having no luck. Is there a secret to doing this? Is there software that will help? Is it possible that this monitor is simply too old and thus will not be able to achieve true white any more (I have a second monitor on the system that is of the same make/model but newer that produces fine whites)? I appreciate any help you might offer here as I am lost and becoming a bit frustrated (I am in a very small town with nobody near with this level of technical knowledge).

8) Well, if your second monitor produces 'fine whites', then I think you just answered your first question about your original monitor being 'old'...give it a decent burial...

If your monitor has "temperature" control try setting higher temperature.
