Default canon powershot A40 or Nikon coolpix 2500?

canon powershot A40 vs Nikon coolpix 2500

Hey all,

I want to buy a digital camera and these are the two cameras im considering. They both seem equally good to me. Can anyone advise me as to which camera would be an overall better buy?

Thanx,

PK

I would recommend looking at the Olympus C5050. It is a 5mp camera costing about $800. You can also consider the Olympus C4040, a 4mp camera, it cost about $500.

I have to throw my 2 cents in here, with my budget limit of $300, I went for the Coolpix 2500 because of the super macro (1.6") and size, price $279.
I looked at a lot of cameras in that price range and it was a tossup between the Canon A40, S330 or the 2500.
I would love to get a 5mp camera, but I will never find one in my price range.
I would not buy used or ref.

I would suggest A40. Compared to Coolpix, it has audio as well as video out capability for viewing pictures in a TV

I'll suggest the A40. If you are looking for a camera thats costs less than $300, the Olypmus models are no good since they are way out of that range.

I liked the Canon A40 over the Nikon 2500 becasue I ealyl disliked the swivel lens, and as I recall, it did not have an optical viewfinder. The swivel lends sounds neat, but in in this particualr case, it isn't becasue its small and hard to grab hold of to adjust. This leads to getting finger prints on the lens. Also, the Canon is a little less expensive, and takes AA batteries (I don't recall what the Nikon takes)
