I'll chime in on the battery free manuals, Olympus om1, Pentax k-1000, ftb, and a battery free light meter like the Sekonic l-398m.

Try putting whatever it is into a freezer. Then take it out and shoot some pic's? One thing I would also consider is disposable cameras. They are cheap and light weight and the cardboard might be better than metal or plastic?

Disposables might be cheap and light but they are bulky, pack space is usually at a premium.

Maybe check into what some other mountaineering photographers, like the late Galen Rowell use.
