Default Camera suggestions for close-up photos?

Hello. I am a medical resident in Virginia. I am starting to put together a color atlas of various skin reactions which I want to eventually publish. My chairman has given me a budget of $300 to buy a camera for this project. I plan to take most of my pictures up close, maybe 6 cm from the skin. I would be gratefull for suggestions regarding which cameras I should look at or which features I need to look for most of all. I would like to get a digital camera to make it easier for me to sort through the pictures on my computer. All input would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Get a Nikon, I got the Nikon coolpix 2500 mostly because it gets very close, down to 1.6" from subject, costs $179. takes great photos.
Chech out Steve's reviews on it.

If you can go to $400, then try the Olympus C4000. It has a super macro mode that would meet your requirements
