spot metering help

okay im not exactly sure what spot metering is but my guess is that it focuses on the object more when there is a highly lit backround..but I dont get how to do it..can someone reccomend a good test to see how it works

Find a motive with high contrastconditions, then point the spot to the darkest (or lightest) area - shift to multisegment metering and shoot exactly the same way. That's it. See the difference.

could you explain a bit more? btw im on a sony dsc-p2

ps.do you have any samples of spot metering?

Klaus DK Nov 25, 2002 4:42 AM

Dont know if your camera can do this - you have to look in the manual.

select spotmetering in the menu - then find a dark thing aganst a light background. Take the pic.
Then
select multisegment metering ind the menu and shoot exact the same pic.

You should now be able to see the difference.

I'll mail a couple of shot to you.

regards

Jeri,
Take a look at Steve's dictionary:

so is multi metering the same as matrix?

IMO, each manufacture/brand have a particular way and name to call their product features.
To be sure of what means what, you have to check the spec/manual pf a particular camera. For example, not all manufacture/brand use the same weighting ratio applied to each zone of a “multi metering” system , and metering zones are differently arranged/allocated in each camera’s frame.
