Hi, I'm a newbie so I hope you can forgive me if I'm posting a dummy thing.
I'm looking for someone that can explain me how I must interpretate the indication about the size of the CCD. Often I read something like 1/2,5" or 1/2.7" and so.
I've a Olympus C750 with CCD 1/2.5" and if I convert 2.5" in millimeters I've 63mm that is the focal lenght of the camera. I read also that the camera is a 38mm equivalent in the 35 mm standard. I cannot understand how is possible if it's 63mm it cannot be 38mm. The 1/2.5" isn't a area but a lenght, whilst in the reflex or on the camera with more then 5mb we have the same value expressed in 24x36 forms.

Can you help me?

Thanks

I know steve's site has / had a good page on sensor sizes but I can't seem to find it.

Hi bubba76:

Go immediately to:

I searched for 6 mos. for the answer to your exact question and then finally, somehow, blundered upon it... :-)

FWIW,
