What will you be shooting with your camera? What options are you wanting on the camera? Will you want to add lens or filters to the camera? What size of prints will you be printing? What is the most important feature you want to have on the camera?

This sounds familiar, but would like the best possible for my money. I want to spend around $500.

Run down:
I am not technically experienced but dont mind a bit of a challenge. However ease of use is also important. I need a camera for family pics, close ups of new baby, parties, etc. I am a creative sole and pride myself on taking well composed pics. I love to use natural light, as in my experience, this makes for better pics if you are not a prof.

Ergonomics is important, I don't like these slim , thin cameras, I want something that is nice to handle , but not too chunky, heavy, and not to light.

Cameras that I have been looking at are;

Nikon 4300, this looks good, maybe a bit too light.
Sony DSC s85, also looks good
Olympus c4040 looks excellent
Fuji s602, looks great too, but maybe too chunky.

Also, I would like some movie function, possibly with sound , but these fuctions are secondary,

I feel ambitious and would like to start with 4MP

Can anyone suggest more, and or compare the ones I mentioned?

I thank you for any advice,

You have a good list. I will recommend the Oly C4040 for two reasons:
1. 4mp, 3x optical zoom and great optics especially for low light systems. You can view my oly photos at www.pbase.com/gibsonpt3620/inbox.
2. You can purchase the camera on line in your price range. Look at www.dealtime.com for pricing and vendor ratings.

Bonus reason: I own this camera and love it.
