Default HELP! need advise on purchasing a new camera

I need help. I am looking for a small digital camera with decent options. I would like a point and shoot with manual controls also. I thought it would be fun to have some video with sound but I don't know if that's really important- I'm not sure when I would use it. I'm looking at the Olympus D-40 or 50, the pentax optio 430 or 330 the Canon S45 and Minolta L-1000. I really like the Canon but it's just feels too large. Any suggestions? Thoughts? I appreciate any help I can get- I'm reading every review and it's starting to make me crazy. Thanks

The Olympus C50, 5mp, 3X optical zoom and is listed as one of Steve's best pics in two catergories. It is small enough to fit in your palm.

Thanks for your help
I noticed that the C50 doesn't have sound with the video where the D40 does and I'm not sure I really need 5mpx. Do you like the D40? I really like the size, although I just realized they aren't quite the same size.

The D40 is a good camera. It is bigger than the C50 but still a subcompact camera you can carrier with you.

I just looked at the D40 and it is larger than I thought. What do you think of the Canon S230?

Canon makes nice stuff. I don't think you can go wrong with any pf their current line of digital cameras. Personally, the Elph's are too small for me. I find them awkward to use.

Canon makes good digital cameras. The S230 should fulfill your needs. The C50 just blew my mind away when I first held the camera. It is amazing how much they can pack in this small package. I prefer the C4040 or C5050, I like to add filters and lens to the camera.
