First of all, this should be posted in the "Post Your Photos-->Critiques and Techniques" forum. You will probably get much more response there.

I find that this photo is too "flat". It needs more contrast. It could probably be darkened a bit. The bars of the cage are distracting but not much you can do about that without a lot of very careful cloning.

If you have an opportunity to go back and visit again, try shooting the picture without flash. With a little editing in PS or PSP, it might make a great picture.

I agree that the question belongs in one of the other forums, but since it is here, I'll put in my two cents worth.

I think the bars are OK: it almost gives a "If these weren't here, ..." caption with no words. I also think that would be emphsized more if the bars were straight so make the critter more of a staight-in-your eye glare. Something akin to this:

(That adjustment also illustrates why it isn't always a good idea to very frame your shot so no cropping is needed.)
