Default Best-quality camera for super-macro?

If my primary interest is super-quality macro photography and great optics, what do people here recommend in a digicam for $400-500? A Compact Flash-compatible camera would be preferred.

As always, thanks in advance.

Nikon rules the super-macro world. Grab up a Coolpix 995 or spend a little more and get the new Coolpix 4500.

Thanks, Steve. Isn't the 995 more expensive than the 4500, though?

Nope, the 4500 is the newer model of the Coolpix swivel series and is more expensive. You can save a little $$$ by buying a 995, but I really feel the 4500 is a better camera overall.
