If a picture is "blurry" because it's out of focus, there's not a lot you can do about it. If it's a little soft, some sharpening may help a little. You have to be careful not to over-sharpen or your picture won't look natural.

Your best bet is to work on focusing properly. You might have to use a tripod/monopod if you're zooming, shoot at a faster shutter speed or get a better lens. Software is one tool, but it can't fix a badlyout of focus picture.

My main problem is a picture of my late brother. I have a picture of him before his sudden death, that was cropped from another photo and I would like to clear up if possible.

If you are willing to do such a thing you might want to post it on this forum and ask the good people in this forum to help with this but if this is too personal a thing to do then I apologize but many have posted pictures asking for help to improve....
My sympathies go out to you and your family.
God bless.

Irfanview is probably the best free photo mod and viewer on the planet. Download the plugins for viewing over 40 file types. There's a slew of features that most folks don't seem to find. Poke around; there's a slew of stuff you can do besides sharpen and crop.

Cock3tail that would be a good idea to post the picture if you didn't mind, then hopefully some members will 'have a go' and you could see for yourself if the photo could be restored enough to justify the purchase of a suitable program, (if a competent free one can not be found).

If I may suggest Berto, it might be better for cock3tailto post it in the Xtreme Makeover Forum, http://www.stevesforums.com/forums/view_forum.php?id=89, where members can ask for all sorts of editing help without the criticism, which would undoubtedly be in abundance in the Critiques & Techniques Forum and I don't think that would be appropriate in this instance.

Regards & commiserations,

Stevekin.
