I recently purchased a Canon S70. This weekend thecamera was accidentally dropped from a height of about 1 meter onto a brick surface. It landed on the zoom lens and sustained a couple of scratches/chips on the casing. I took some pictures immediately following the drop and it seems to be functioning o.k. My question is can I expect some degradation in its picture taking ability/quality and is there any testing I can do to determine if it is performing as well as before? Would it be worthwhile to have it checked out by a technician?

thanks

Probably no need to take it for a checkup if it seems to be functioning ok. It's possible that the camera could have trouble in the future, since a drop from that height may have weakened internal parts. But you might be lucky and the damage is only superficial....ie scratches only. You should just take lots of photos and just keep an eye out on the picture quality...like focusing or anything in the photo that seems out of place.

And maybe you can give the zoom a good work out as well....like zoom in and out lots of times, and see if everything goes smoothly.
