Default Taking a digital camera to the snow!!

I am about to buy my first digital camera. Looks like it's going to be a Canon G2, (however, I might just wait a bit for the Nikon 5700). But I digress.

I am going to take the camera up on the mountains with me when i go skiing this year. (July-September here in Australia).

My questions...

What kind of temprature extremes can these modern camera handle?

What would be the best way to carry a digital camera around when skiing? Too close to the body and it will get condensation in and on it, while exposed to the elements it could freeze.

Default sking

Well i bought a canon S100 for its small size for taking to the slopes. I havent yet done it but I was going to keep the camera in my jacket pocket. The jacket pocket has just a layer of waterproof (whaterver the jackest made out of-gortex, I beleive) and a thin layer of insulation but its on the outside of the heavyer insulation that keeps me warm. I figure that will work best, it wont get to warm but it wont get wet either. I would try something like that. Unfortunately i cant get sking until around late november to try it out.
