Most models have a small capacitor that keeps a charge for a limited amount of time (to give you time to swap batteries without losing the date/time settings).

But, if you leave a battery out of a camera for too long, the charge in the capacitor diminishes so that you will need to reset the date and time.

One solution is to have more than one battery pack (charging one while the other is in use). Then, swap a low battery with a charged battery (reducing the time the camera is without power).

Another solution with Kodak models is to use a docking station (so that you don't need to remove the battery for charging).
