I am looking for a good book to get to improve my portrait photography. Whatever I know about portraiture is through trial and error. Time to learn from a master, I thought.
Anyway, I am more interested in a book w.r.t. to the basics of posing and portrait photography in general. I don't have a full lighting set-up or a studio yet.

Any recommendations?

 thanks, Kalypso.

But... I still have the urge to turn pages of a book... any recommendations with regards to that 'type' of medium?

You can't go wrong looking over the catalog for Amherst Media...as they claim, they are the world's largest publisher of books on photography...and the books are practical and well produced.

I believe that National Geographic has a series about portrait photography, you might try that. I haven't seen that book, but I've generally heard good things about books in their series on photography.

Eric

ps. I know, not normally who I think of for portrait photography, but they do do good stuff in general.
