Default Steve's Photo of the Day - How is it Prepared?

Steve - this site's Photo of the Day is optimized for screen viewing better than any I've seen. Granted, you receive many excellent images, but still . .

I, and surely many others, would find your editing sequence/methods most interesting and informative (unsharp settings, etc.)

Could you share that with us?

Sorry I didn't answer this sooner but I didn't see it way down here. The Photo of the Day is resized, sharpened and occassionally color corrected using ThumbsPlus about 95% of the time. This is why I prefer that folks send me the full size image so that I can properly resize and compress the image to make it the best possible for display on the web page.

The exact sequence is to bring up the image in ThumbsPlus, resize it to 640x480 or as close to that as the image dimensions will allow. Sometimes I will do a little artistic cropping to eliminate something in the background or to emphasize the main subject better. After resizing I then use the Sharpen Less or the Sharpen Even Less feature to add a little edge emphasis unless it is better without it. The final image is saved as quality 80 JPEG and that's pretty much how we do it.

I am totally Mac-stupid but I think that iPhoto is a good all-round Mac digicam/imaging application:

http://www.apple.com/iphoto/

Macintosh users feel free to jump in and tell us your favorite graphics app and be sure to include the web site URL where it can be found.
