Would you expect your local newspaper to stand behind a dealer that advertised in it? I would recommend checking feedback on the store you have in mind.

actually I would...although i say that with respect to the internet being less face to face personal contact

years ago I did radio and if we had any clients that pulled anything we would have pulled their advertising

i am by no means accusing anyone of anything....but their prices were really low

can you recc. any review sites of camera dealers?

thanks

I just checked resellerratings.com. Wawa must be new; they don't even have a rating yet. I wouldn't take the chance, but it's your money.

OK Gregg,

Let me get this straight...if you buy a camera from wawa (a.k.a.Starlightcamera), and you have a problem, Steve should remove wawa as an advertiser - correct? Assuming this happens...how does that help you? Or do you think Steve should reimburse you for your lost money?

Here's where the camera will come from (maybe this week):

Here's what bizrate thinks:

Ripoff report says:

epinions anybody?

Let me know how you make out with them - they have great prices - I might want to place an order with them...yeah, right!

Gregg:

Steve has no control over the dealers included in the price search engines you'll find in the reviews here.

Use your own judgement when selecting a dealer.

I'd strongly recommend you choose a dealer with lots of good customer feedback (read the customer reviews for any vendor you consider).

I'd also recommend avoiding any dealers with a small number of reviews (dealers have been caught trying to pad their own ratings with glowing reviews in the past).

In addition to looking at customer feedback in the price search engines on this site, I'd also recommend checking out any dealer using http://www.resellerratings.com

Unfortunately, there aresome "scam artists" with very nice looking web sites (lots of important looking logos, etc.) selling on the internet now (and some of these are in the price search engines).

I can give you atip (that might upset some NY residents). If a dealer's about or policies pages shows a Brooklyn address, I'd use extra caution. You sometimes seeBrooklyn referred to as Crooklyn in the digicam forums.

Hi Jim

I was born in Brooklyn and immigrated to this country about 35 years ago:!:

I had the ususal difficulties with language ect. Now as I read about all these Brooklyn scam artists, it saddens me that the country of my birth has such a bad rep...

Well deserved as that might be....

Dave:

I'm sure there are a lot of very fine people in Brooklyn. Unfortunately, that does seem to be where most of the questionable internet vendors are located.

As often as I've seen customers say that they've reported some of these dealers to the NY Attorney General's office (and yet these same dealers are still in business), if I were a resident there, I'd be expressing my opinion at the voting polls during elections.

yes...if he finds out one of his advertisers who supports this site is fraud, he should remove them from the list

when you say to someone to please support my site by purchasing from one of these people...you are also recommending them as well and I believe have a responsibility to your readers

no he isn't responsible for refunding my money if I had a problem

I was referring to what if the deal is "too good to be true" and you can't get the product they offer at the price they offer...or they try to ram expensive extras down your throat and if you don't take them...they cancel your order
