I have a Canon S400. When I take a shot with the red eye reduction on, I see a red glowing spotĀ* briefly in the LCD screen. is that normal? I had a different S400 before this one and I don't remember seeing the red glow with the other camera, but perhaps I just didn't notice?Anybody?

What does the owners manual for the newer s400 say? This may just be a new display icon indicating the red-eye feature in operation. If the manual indicates a different red-eye indicator, then it's head-scratching time.
If the camera operates normally otherwise and the red dot doesn't show up in the picture, it may not be a serious problem even if the manual can't explain it. If it is an anomaly and the camera is under warranty, then it may be worth pursuing with Canon.

I don't see anything about it in the manual. Has anybody out there in Forumland had the same experience with an S400 Elph?

It may be the same as the s2is, that shows the green spot for focus assist. They must all happen before the shutter opens
