Default dare I try this...?

Dare I try this..I have a Canon G2..works well with 420 ex on hot shoe..but I would like to try out my old minolta ring flash in hot shoe,knowing it wont be ttl.I'm not afraid that it won't work ,only that it may fry the cameras innards..is this likely?

The danger is in the flash's trigger voltage as Canon specifies no more than 6 volts (some flashes made before there were digital cameras can have as much as 300 volts or more).
