The Olympus C4000 is about $400 on line in the US. It is a 4mp, 3X optical zoom, with a macro and supermacro mode. It will work at a point and shoot camera or more control with manual settings. You can add filters, lens and adapter tubes to the camera in the future.

There are two types of zoom available on a digital camera:
optical - is a function of the lens as with 35mm cameras. My Olympus is a 3X optical zoom and it works well for me. does not reduce the quality of the picture
digital - resamples the image at lower quality and does effect the quality of the picture.

You should only consider the optical zoom when buying a digital camera.

Macro - is the ability to focus on an at a very close distance.
Super Macor - allows you to get closer to the image.

Check out Steve's Digicam Dictionary link for better definitions.

Great, thanks for your help !!

I've look at some pictures taken by an olympus c-4000 over the net and I must say that they are very nice.

So u definitely think it would be a good buy for a digital camera ?
