Default why is there a video length limit?

does anyone know why some digicams only got 30sec and others go 2minutes? why aren't they all just limited to storage space? is this limitation real, or are companies creating artificial differences between models?

First limitation is the internal ram in the camera (not the memory you add via CF, smart media or whatever). The internal memory holds the picture while the picture is being written to the slower card.

Second limitation is the resolution of the movie clip, lower resolution means you can fit more time on a card.

Another difference may be the type of video format, and how much compression is used.

So it is real.
