Clean with a damp 100% cotton cloth. Make sure the camera is off.

How dirty is your lcd. Usually you can wipe it off with a 100% dry cotton cloth to remove the smudges. If you camera is off, cleaning with a damp (not dripping wet) cloth will be ok.

Today's LCD screens are not the fragile and easily scratched LCD screens of yesteryear. I don't even think twice anymore about using my t-shirt tail to clean them off. Just check for any "hard" contaminents first (sand, dirt, etc) as these will scratch all but the hardiest screens. There are lots of approved cleaning kits out there and most include a soft, lintless cloth and some sort of cleaning fluid. Even the (nose) greasiest LCD I've ever had came clean with a soft cloth and a little bit of Windex (sprayed on the cloth, not directly on the LCD.)

The "impurity" on the screen is nothing fixed - it looks like a quite small patch of fluid. I haven't caused any substance to get on the screen anyway.

On a similar, but sightly lateral topic does anyone know of a good LCD cover for the Nikon Coolpix 4500?

Thanks.

For finger grease and the like, scotch tape--the desktop kind--works great, too.
