I just purchased a used 21 Dell P1130 monitor. I installed it and there are 2 very fient, but visable lines about a third from the top and a third from the bottom. I called company from where I purchased and the person said these lines are known as 'dampening wires' lines and are very common on trinitron monitors.

My question... is this just a BS line, or is he telling the truth? Is it normal for these monitors to display these lines?

Thanks for you comments.

John

He's telling the truth. If you google for Trinitron dampening wire you'll see various places that discuss this. FWIW

Is this fixable? You can hardly see the lines, but they are there.

Apparently not-- they're part of the design of the monitor.

They are part of the design of the monitor. So they are not only "common" they are required. The trinitron design requires them.

I'm using a trinitron monitor right now and I can see the line where the web page is white, but I can't in other areas.

Those monitors don't suffer from color gone alignment problems (because they only have 1 gun) and they are lighter than other monitor designs. I find that worth the 2 lines, but then again I hardly notice them.... I guess I'm just used to them.
