Default macros

I have a friend who is a dentist and would like to buy him a digital camera that he can use at work for close-ups of his work for his patient files. I have a canon 330 and love it except for it's macro capabilities. What camera would be best suited for great macros for dentistry work, yet can double for personal use? Is the next canon in the 3.0 range a good bet, or does someone have one especially suited for dentistry purposes?

The Nikon Coolpix line of twist-body digital cameras is considered by many to be the best digital macro shooter around. It can focus as close as a few milimeters and has a ring flash attachment available. Get a used 990 or 995, or purchase a new 4500 which just came out last year. PatiO.
