i know this is a bit late, but i just got my konica minolta dimage a1 out of the cupboard and i'm really unsure which one of my cameras to take to hawaii tomorrow.

i have a panasonic fx2 and the above camera. one is really tiny that i can fit in my pocket and the other has a big lens. which one of these cameras is the best one to take tomorrow?

i'll just be taking pictures of the beach, attractions, laua's, scenery, waikiki.

i hope someone can help me!

The A1.

I am not so familiar with the FX2, but I know the A1 has a very good lens (28 - 200). I think you will find the range of the A1 lens to be very useful in Hawaii, more so than the FX2.

IMO definitely A1.

Much better wideangle for landscape shots, also longer tele is useful if you can't/don't want to walk nearer.
Image stabilization helps when taking photos in dimmer light. (like sunsets)

I would take both. If you take a trip to the top of one of the volcanoes on the main island, climb Diamond Head or take a trip anywhere you would want scenic pictures, the wide angle lens on the A1 would give you much nicer scenic pictures. It also has a better lens and takes sharper images than the FX2. And the FX2 LCD-only viewfinder setup probably isn't the best in bright sunlight.

But there will probably be times you don't want to lug a large camera but might encounter picture opportunities. A pocket camera is ideal for those situations.
