I was going to submit a query to Arizona Highways about whether they would be interested in an article I wanted to write. I checked their writer's guidelines, and it specifies "No Digital Photography, Film Only.":?

Anyone else find that magazines still are biased against high quality digital? I would be shooting with a Canon 20D.

AZ Highways argument was that they usually use medium/large format for their pictures, and digital is nowhere that resolved, but for most cases, I'd think digital would be just fine for most mag photography except for the super scenic.

Depending on the physical magazine, digital would not be sufficient. Medium or Large format might actually be the only thing that can do it.

If they had said that 35-mm film was allowed, then they would be clearly biased against digital. But even the absolute best DSLRs are only just near medium/large format.

Looks like they might be changing, at least for some photographs

I'm not aware of anyone shooting sports photography with film.

I hate to say it, but most film processors these days "scan" the negative to digital form before it's printed.

So, when they say "no digital", they are only talking about the digital source, not the digital used during the print production.
