Default How does Image Stabilization work?

Is the lens CCD suspended in a liquid? Is it attached to a spring (like earthquake measurement devices)? Is it all done in software?

There are various technologies, but here's how Canon does it (the same technology is used in the Olympus C-2100UZ):

interestingly enough, the same Canon technology is what is used in the Nikon Lenses :!: :shock:
