I had a choice between 2 cameras.. Same line, same features, difference of 100.00 and 2 mp.. One being a 5.0 the other 7.0

I'm a Mommy.. like to take nice photos.. I can see printing the odd 8x10. I highly doubt I'd go higher than that.. . This is probably a DUMB question.. but will the 5.0mp be sufficient? What's the 'standard' required mp for an 8x10?

For the extra 100 bucks I can buy a new ski jacket.. so if I don't need it I won't bother. And.. if for some reason there's an unfortunate toddler accident with my camera.. I'll be 100 bucks closer to buying a replacement.. LMAO

Start choosing the colour of your new ski jacket .

A 3mp camera could produce pretty good 8x10 photos. A 5mp camera would produce better 8x10's.

The only difference that an extra 2mp would really make is not in the size of an image, but allowing closer crops while maintaining detail.

This, however, could be at the cost of more noise, especially if the two cameras have the same sensor, which is likely.

So go for the 5mp camera.

And make sure you teach your toddler to hold the camera properly .

That's what I thought.. Thankyou for making me feel better. I'm usually pretty good with zooming to what I want in the end anyway.. At the most, I crop to center a bit.

I LOVE this forum!

Hmm.. maybe a tripod and some extra memory.. hehe..

THAT was FAST! You went from your initial question to having the camera in your hands in like an hour and 45 minutes!

So fast I didn't have the chance to link to this helpful thing on megapixels:

LOL.. I had bought the camera.. but then when I got home was thinking... hmm.. should I return it for the 7mp one????

I think I spend most of my time doing returns and exchanges because I always do that.. LOL.. Saves me 100 bucks, 30 min the return line and about 20.00 in gas..LOL

Went out today. got a battery charger and case. Haven't found a tripod on sale yet.
