I have 3 Minolta Dimage s414 digicams for middle school yearbook use. Images are starting to appear yellow, sometimes flash doesn't appear to work properly. Was told that digicams wear out after a few years and should be replaced. Does anyone know anything about this idea?

Does this happen even when you set the white balance manually?

(I'm not familiar with that camera... Is it possible to tell it that you're shooting in tungsten-lighting conditions?)

Yes, all things wear out. Digicams are no exception. They have many small plastic parts and those definately can wear out and electronic components can fail.

The yellow images could be the result of the white balance being set incorrectly, or perhaps the AUTO setting is not setting the WB correctly.

Check the WB setting in your camera, perhaps it got shifted accidently. If it is on AUTO, try setting to daylight and see if that solves the problem.

It is possible that there is a failure in the electronics causing the yellow. Ditto for the flash.

Basically, digicams are disposable consumer items. Use it until it fails, then throw it away and get a new one. They really cannot be easily repaired.

If an expensive camera breaks in a potentially-minor way, it might be worth fixing. Maintenance does usually take forever, though.
