I had bought a Canon A610 a few days before. Camera is OK and takes good pictures but when I am not using the camera for a few minutes the LCD shuts off automatically. I then had to press the display button to make the LCD active again. Same with the lens - it retracts back when I am not shooting for a few minutes. Is it a problem with the camera or is it just to save the battery from draining. Or is it a option in the menu that I can set for the LCD to not turn off ? Please reply asap so that if it is a problem I can get it exchanged.

Thanks

Power save option most likely, should be somewhere in your manual.

Yes I thought so but could not find it anywhere . Also I google a lot and none of the reviews talked about it . Also I have not changed any of the settings , just taken a few pics with the camera to make sure it worked OK .

I just looked at the manual ( Page 20)and it does says that LCD will turn off automatically after 1 min, even if auto power down is set to "off". and camera itself will turn off after 3 minutes if no controls are being accessed. If anyone else has the same problem they can take a look at P 26 of manual to extend this time period. I feel like such a fool .It was there in the manual and I was searching for it on internet. I need to stop googling for everything :G

I recently looked through the A610 manual and noted that you can reset the factory settings for the camera. You might want to try and reset the factory settings on your camera. Mayby that will fix your problem.

Good luck.
