I have an Olympus Camedia D510 now. Our problem is it's too slow - we seem to be missing shots off our kids.

What's agoodspeed for shutter lag, shot 2 shot and startup for a digital camera? Most if not all of our pics will be of our 2 girls ages 2 and 4. In the fall our 4 yr old will most likely start playing soccer. I want something faster than what we have now and before I narrow down my other requirements I am trying to determine good times on the shutter lag etc.

Canon a610 or A620 are fast starting up, shooting multiple shots with very little shutter lag.

The Canon S2 is VERY quick.. I guess the same at the 610.. but you get the bonus of the 12x zoom and incredible stereo sound video.

Thanks for the replies!

I just found out that through a friend that I can get a discount on Panasonic. What's your thoughts on the speed of these two cameras:

Panasonic DMC-LZ5 and the DMC-FZ7?

I'm not sure I want a camera as big as the FZ7 but the zoom would be handy.

The LZ2 wasn't too quick for full press shutter lag. You will have to wait for a good review to see about the LZ5.

The FZ5 was a good bit quicker, but again you will have to wait for reviews to get exact numbers on the FZ7.

You can find a review of the FZ7 at:

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/panasonicfz7/

You should be able to find an FZ5 for less than $350 online. It's supposed to be a great camera for sports events in good light. Not very big for an ultra zoom, and very short shutter lag.

I like my Fuji FinePix S5200 for low light shots.
