When or if you consider a name for a website displaying your work/port folio, how do you go about it?

Do you choose your namesake only?

Your full name and the word 'photography after it?

Something totally unrelated or random?

Did you go through a long thought process before picking a domain name?

Examples?

Kind regards,

Michael

It depends on your goal. Do you want to advertise you as a photographer (if so then by all means name it something like johndoe.com) Or are you adverstising photographs of a specific nature? Such as naturelandscapes.com Or perahps come up with something unique like the photographer at http://www.luminous-landscape.com/

For search engines having photography in the name may be useful but if it is johndoephotography it can become quite long. The shorter the better IMO.

search engines read the description you give about your site in the meta tags which is where u can say so much and describe your site with keywords

regarding the name for a site........surely thats something that u need to come up with for yourself? as it is a very personal thing, and yes shorter is better

mine is hd7.co.uk the hd7 is the part of post code relating to area where im from, post code is like a zip code.........cant get much shorter than that !!!

i didnt want anything with my name in it as i dont like using my name online......that way its easy to steer clear of spam and crap as they never get my name right.........its allways "dear reanimator " LOL

my idea if its available would simply be yellowmunky.co.uk i like the ring to that

regards

Gary
