I'm looking for some good books on digital photography in general, stuff about techniques used, detailed info on settings in specific situation, even tech stuff about how the camera works... anything that teaches me what I need to know to be a better photographer. Any recommendations?

Probably already read it but AAks white paper for the H1 is good reading for most cameras and your P850 has almost the same "stats" as the H1 so most of what is says can be useful for you as well.
