Default Recommendations for 3x digital camera ($300-$450)

I am looking for recommendations for a 3x zoom camera in the $300-$500 price-range. We are not looking for fancy auto-adjust features. We simply want to be able to point and shoot some landscape and people pictures. The camera should perform well under different lighting conditions. We have a Sony DSC-P72, but we are considering returning it and trying out a different camera since the focus does not look too sharp.

Oops. Instead of "fancy auto-adjust features", I meant "fancy manual-adjust features".

If you don't mind, try Nikon's Coolpix 4500 which has everything adjustable. The price tag is about $640; however, after Nikon's $200 rebate, it is only $450.00 - a best buy! This camera has 4MP, 4X zoom and perhaps the most complete accessories (from Nikon and third party manufactures). It lenses include fisheye, 0.63X wide angle (making the 4500 to go down to 24mm), 2X (making the 4500 to go up to 300mm), and 3X (making the 4500 to go up to 450mm). However, if you prefer to have everything adjustable, there is a steep learning curve ahead. Take a look at my 4500 user guide for some more details.

might want to look at Minolta S414. It has a 4x zoom but it is still in your price range
