I just bought a Kodak P 850 and would like too know how I can get a close-up picture of a flower. I have tried but they don't come out clear. What settings should I use? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Are you perhaps standing too close ?

According to Dpreview the focus works out at

• Normal: 0.1 m - infinity (W) 0.9 m - infinity (T)
• Macro: 10 - 90 cm (W) 0.9 m - 2 m (T)

So if you are closer than 10cm you will not be able to focus.

Its actually best to shoot at range, 90cm, using full telephoto, the target will appear fractionally larger plus there is a lot less barrel distortion of the picture.

Use normal settings, probably centre zone focusing, centre metering etc

A wide open lens would give you more light to play with but decreases depth of field which is very important in macro shots, as with a small depth of field, the centre of the target might be in focus while fronds or petals a cm closer or further away might be out of the field and blurred, though this might be anaffect youactually want. Also of course lens are in general sharper in the centre of their aperature range.

So, perhaps not full wide aperature, use flash if necessary for a decent shutter speed, mount the camera on a tripod if you feel the need and you could always use an off camera release or the self timer to stop the least bit of hand or camera shake.
