Default Need to choose:Olympus c5050 or Nikon Coolpix5000

Buying my first 5MP digital camera, and don't want to make the wrong choice.

Out of about 6 possible camera choices that I started out with, I now have it narrowed down to the Olympus c5050 and the Nikon Coolpix 5000.

I like the Nikon brand, but the Coolpix5000 is an older model than the Olympus C5050, and my understanding is that the Coolpix 5000 is being phased out.

Basically, which camera will take better, clearer, more colorful pics?

Never owned an olympus camera. How does the lens quality compare between the two?

I noticed that the olympus has a 1.8 aperture lens-the nikon is 2.8. What advantages/disadvantages will this give me?

Seeking advice or comments from anyone who has owned either one of these cameras.

I know only about the Oly C5050

Olympus makes a very good all glass optics lens.
The F1.8 will provide better low light capability.
The moveable lcd panel helps when capturing unique angles.
The photo assist lamp is also helpful in low light situtations.
Accepting AA rechargeable batteries is important.

I recently bought my C-5050z after months of reading reviews and forums. The Nikon has some advantages. The biggest to me is the equivalent 28mm lens. I didn't like the lack of AF assist light for low-light shots. I also had a problem with the proprietary battery--I don't live where batteries are easy to get. The Olympus has RAW format.

I suspect either would produce good pictures. The reviews at dpreview are really a pretty good place to compare.
