Default Canon Powershot A40 Rectilinear Distortion

Has anyone experienced rectilinear distortion with a Canon Powershot A40? If I take a picture of something perfectly rectangular, the straight edges appear to be slightly curved even at different zoom levels. After sending it back to Canon twice, the folks there say that it can't be improved. It surprised me. If anyone would be willing to evaluate it, I will send a sample photo.

The rest of us call it "barrel distortion" which is not unusal with cheaper cameras. Mostly it's seen at wider angles (less than 50mm...50mm being the focal length of the human eye). The way to correct it is via programs like Photoshop. Here's a page with a few examples before and after correcting:
