So where's the camera whilst it's taking a pic of you? Is the flash wired to the cam body like a stun gun - fired by wireless, on a long length of chain, or on a special tripod where the legs come out at 90 degrees and lock when lifted, so it's difficult to carry away discreetly?

It's not just theft you have to be concerned about. No one will treat your camera as carefully as you do. My mothers last camera was destroyed on its first outing when an experienced photographer droped it after taking her pic.
After that no one gets their hands on my cameras

Spouses/girlfriends/boyfriends are the worst...I don't know how many times I've heard of a spouse dropping or banging a camera.

My last girlfriend was smart enough to know not to touch my SLR...she was used to the disposible cameras.
