Rjseeney is right on. The only people who are going to answer this with one or the other are probably not reliable - they're driven by bias. The fact is there are a LOT of very good DSLRs. As pointed out, ergonomics is completely personal. But the other fact is - just like any product there is never really a case where camera model a is a direct competitor of camera model b andmodel a is better in every regard. Just like cars - what car is better, Honda or Toyota? The real answer is - it depends - what features do you need and which one feels better to you.

Any person that say manufacturer A is always better is probably not a reliable source. Just my opinion.

I personally would buy a Canon if I had the means. I have used one Nikon Point and Shoot Camera and a few Canons... the Canon's worked great EVERY time... the Nikon was horrible.

DSLR's are probably completely different, but Canon won me with their P&S cameras... although if I really was in the market, I would do some more research.
