Hi Graham!
How are you ?
With you eyes for birds a.s.o you def. should go for a Dslr. It got speed and will do wonders for your photographing. But be aware - the is a steep learing curve to it (D100).

regards
klaus

Klaus, I'm very well, how are you ?

A few questions relating to your set-up.

1) If I did end up getting a D100 what type of telephoto lens do you think I would need to equate to my Digiscoping set-up ? I use a 77mm objective Leica scope with a 32X eyepiece. My simple calculation of the effective focal length of this plus my CP4500 is -

(2x optical zoom in the CP4500 ) x (7.8 mm focal length for the CP4500) x (32x magnification for the eyepiece) = circa 500 millimetres.

Is it as simple as D100 + 500 millimetre = CP4500 + Leica scope, or is that too simple ?

2) What effect does the D100 SLR mirror have on vibration (assuming these things still have mirrors !) ?

3) Is RAW format feasible for taking multiple shots of birds ? With my CP4500 I normaly take 3 to 4 shot bursts until I've got about 40. If I havn't got anything ok by then I probably wont. I use a 256MB with my CP4500 and that gives me about 120 JPEG shots. I understand that RAW will need more....

Sorry it's rather a lot of questions and possibly deviating from your original posting.

Regards, Graham.

No kidding, But I also know that a really great cam like that one needs to be 'earned'. Its one of the 'tech doesn't make the photo' kinda things.

But hands down to Klaus and his awesome site to help all of us get the most out of our pictures.
