Depends on what you mean by success. If image quality is not a concern then yes. If you want quality images you'll be better off getting a video card with an NTSC composite or S-video output and plugging that into a VCR.

What are you trying to do? Make a slide show on video?

For portable slideshows, most people choose burning CDROM to play in a dvd player. Is this what you want, or do you want to mix your stills with video and put on tape? The latter needs video edit work station software, fast pc and the graphix card to output video which you can then record.

Many cameras let you plug them into your TV to look at your photos on a big TV screen.

If you had a camera with this feature, then you only need to put the photos onto the camera and then you could plug it into your VCR and record it.

(Presumably.)

There may be technical reasons why this isn't possible. But it's an idea.

For recording to VCR some video cards have TV out so that is handy.

You can also get an external box that plugs into the VGA port that also gives video out...these are called encoders.

In both cases you won't get much detail due to the low resolution of TV (compared to a computer monitor), and you will have to have the resolution at 800x600 or less.

Just a note why you have to use these devices instead of just filming the monitor, when watching a TV show or a movie that shows a computer monitor on it you may have seen the computer monitor flickering...that's because the refresh rate for monitors is higher than it is for TV/video/film. That's why videotaping the computer monitor won't work.
