Anyone notice that the zoom, on the PS945, sort of steps when zooming rather than being a smooth zoom. I am not sure if it is supposed to do that or not. If anyone knows please tell me...

I get that too, although I have heard from other users they have not noticed it. I count 14 steps form wideangle to telephoto and 9 steps in Macro mode.
