I have had no real problems with this model, except for its weight it seems to do the job. When I returned from a weekend away i found that the lcd screen had been broken or possibly cracked. Is it possible to get this screen replaced or would i need a whole new camera?

I am moving this to the HP forum where you should get better information.

The Radio Shack stores are able to get your screen fixed. I don't know the cost, but they can get you an estimate before you agree to the replacement.

I also got mine replaced under warranty. If you are still in your warranty period, send it in for replacement. The LCD is a bit fragile on that camera.

Radio Shack will replace the LCD , $40.00 for the Lcd and $86.00 for installation plus tax if applicable. Cost me $20.00 for estimate, i did not have it fixed, was returned. From what I was told on the phone, they exchange cameras, you would probablly not get your camea back.

Must be a real weakness in the camera, for I had the same thing happen to me only a month after I bought it.

HP replaced it no problems.

The LCD Screen on my HP R707 has shattered twice, both times without dropping or knocking the camera up against anything or exposure to any extreme temperatures. The first time, it was covered under warranty and HP sent me a new camera. The second time was 14 months after I received the new camera. The offered to repair the camera for $30 or trade it in for model M517, at a cost of $167.00 or R717, at a cost of $177.99. (I found M517 online newfor $194.06 and R717 for $146.00.) Seems to me that this is a common problem with this particular model. I have 2 other HP digital cameras and have not experienced any problem of this nature with them.

I stand corrected! When I called HP back to opt for the repair @ $30, I was told that I misunderstood...the $30 was a diagnostic fee, so my only options now are repair (at a cost of in excess of $200) or trade-in.

Read your warranty, and if it indicates that you are indeed covered, send copies of your warranty and your original sales receipt to HP, along with a request to honor the warranty. Corporate info is:

Hewlett-Packard Company
3000 Hanover Street
Palo Alto, CA 94304-1185 USA

Phone: (650) 857-1501
Fax: (650) 857-5518

Open 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time, Monday - Friday

(See http://www.hp.com/hpinfo/abouthp/regional.htmlfor more contact information for HP.)

I didn't have any problem with them honoring the warranty.
