It is not absolutely neccesary to have this grid, but it sure helps.

I used to have the same problem, myself - and strangely enough I always tilted my picture to one and the same side - never to the opposite side! It was so strange that I thought I had developed a brain-disorder....

But, jok aside - If you just keep in mind, all the time, that your horizons need to be watched, then you will succeed in the end. If not all the time when shooting, but at least when you look at / check your photos in Photoshop. It's easily corrected there! First thing I do, is to correct horizons.

Wishing you good luck!

Remember though that realigning in Photoshop or any other software, will cause a loss of sharpness, a suffered parameter in HDR. We had an interesting thread about that Here.

Didn't realize that Sony doesn't have a user replaceable focusing screen - that's a pain. I did have a thirds line focusing screen for a while, but have found I do reasonably well just watching my vertical lines and lining them up with the normal viewfinder's angle marks. That's not so helpful with horizon lines, but if I think about it, I can usually manage to get them a little straighter. One of the little neat things that Pentax did with their K-7 is to put in a level indicator in the viewfinder. It's great for me, who's another one who struggles with squaring things up by eye.

Default HDR Xmas Box

I saw this interesting object in a store window today. There are some white LEDs inside the cloudy plastic box. The lights reflect prismatic colors due to the plastic material of the box. It looked so neat I bought it to shoot. I hope the pic gets across the sheer beauty and unusual appearance of this thing. Its a 4 shot HDR using Photomatix Pro.

Looks great Bynx - just like the lights are alive and jumping around in the box

This is a weird box Simon. You cant actually see the LEDs. But each LED casts multiple short elongated diamond shaped spectrums. And each LED is just a plain white lite.
